It certainly wasn't a thing of beauty Tuesday night, but the Lady Cherokees were able to come away with a 5-4 win over the visiting Lady Mountaineers of Heritage to improve their record to 4-2-1 through seven games.
Heritage struck first, scoring just shy of 10 minutes into the game.
Greenback responded with 24:45 left to play in the first half as Masey Fox dribbled by the Heritage defense for a score.
Each team scored one more time with less than two minutes left in the half. Greenback's goal, once again, came on the foot of Fox.
Heritage scored just 30 seconds into the second half and about nine minutes later Greenback tied once again, this time the goal came from Audrey Anderson.
And own goal against Heritage game Greenback its first lead of the contest with 29 minutes left to play.
Heritage earned a penalty thanks to a hand ball by Greenback and capitalized to tie the game 4-4 with 11:55 left to play.
Just shy of the 10-minute mark Fox had another break away opportunity. She pushed the ball by a Heritage defender, something she had done several times during the game, but despite recovering her own forward pass off sides was called against Greenback.
Fox protested the call to no avail and possession was given back to Heritage.
With 3:22 left to play Fox was able to find her third goal and the winning goal for Greenback. The Heritage defense failed to clear a ball just in front of the goal and Fox tapped it past the keeper.
Heritage sent one final shot off the cross bar as time expired.
After the game Greenback coach Jessica Spafford said she was happy with the team's win but that the team is not playing to its potential
