The Village Quilters will showcase fruits of their labor at their biannual quilt show, "Liberty Garden - A Quilt Show," scheduled for 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. The show will be held in the Tellico Village Chota Recreation Center at 145 Awohili Drive, Loudon.

More than 200 quilts created by members of Village Quilters will be displayed. Varying in size and style, the quilts range from king size to miniature. The main body of work displayed will be voted on by the public in eight different categories, with ribbons being presented Sunday to winners. This year a special display will feature work of past ribbon winners within the guild.  Several members have had their quilts win and/or displayed in national shows throughout the country.

"We hope that everyone will come to the show this year and see the incredible talent so many of our members have," Cathie Peterson, a chairwoman of this year's show, said.

The signature quilt, Liberty Garden, is a patriotic, hand appliquéd wall hanging featuring a flag and flowers in red, white and blue. It was created by a group of guild members specializing in appliqué work.

The show will also feature a boutique of handmade children's items, baby quilts, aprons, book covers, table place mats, jewelry and more. All items for sale have been made by members of the guild.
"Now is the time to shop for Christmas," Jolie Fisher, another chairwoman of this year's show, said. "You won't find a higher quality of goods than at the boutique."

The show also features vendors who will provide quilters, sewers and/or knitters an opportunity to buy their wares. They include: Forget Me Knot Yarn Shop, It's Sew Mary Jane Quilt Shop, Loose Threads, Magic Cat Quilt Shop, Mountain Creek Quilt Shop and Sewing Machines, Etc., all from Tennessee, and Nolting Longarm/Memory Lane Quilting of Georgia.

Village Quilters boasts membership from not only Tellico Village, but from as far away as Townsend, Farragut and Norris.

Admission is $5. Follow the signs along Tellico Parkway, Route 444, to Cooper Visitor Center, where free parking and shuttle services are available. For more information, visit http://www.villagequilters.com/ or contact Sandy Stechmesser at 865-458-8166 or Skstn5@charter.net.
