Redskins drop lead late, fall to Alcoa by three

The Loudon Redskins made just two of six free throw attempts in the fourth quarter, leading to them being outscored by seven in the period and losing 63-60 at home to Alcoa Tuesday night.
The Redskins held a 48-44 lead after the third quarter, but the Tornadoes stormed back to take a 57-56 lead with 2:24 left in the game.

After Alcoa took the lead, David Lee Haskins hit one of two free throws to re-tie the game at 57.
The teams then traded three-point plays as Tre Tate completed one, but Josh Berry answered right back with a three-point play of his own.
After a pair of timeouts, Zac Strange fouled out with 11 seconds left in the game and Matt Shawn hit one of two free throws to lead 61-60.

On the inbound, however, the Redskins got exactly what they wanted.  Berry drove to his left into the lane and was fouled by Vee Hambrick.  "Josh Berry's on the line, down one - I'll take that every night because we're going to win 99 percent of those games," Loudon Head Coach Colt Narramore said after the game.
This wasn't one of those 99 percent of games, however, as Berry missed on both free throws and Hambrick pulled down the rebound after an extended struggle for the basketball.

Darrell Warren was then fouled and he hit both of his free throws.  Berry got one more longshot opportunity, but his desperation shot from in front of the scorer's table slammed off the right side of the backboard.

After the game, Narramore pointed out the size differential between the two teams as a major reason his team lost.  "We had to defend Alcoa's size with guards helping from the top," he explained.  "They got a few too many offensive rebounds."
On the good side, Narramore was pleased with his team's intensity.  "Our effort was there and we executed pretty good," he said.

The Redskins certainly appeared to be in good shape early as they took a quick 3-0 lead and eventually expanded it to 10-3 behind shots by Berry, Haskins and a three by Jordan Belvin.
Alcoa slowly fought back, though, to trail just 15-12 after the opening quarter.
The Tornadoes grabbed the lead with 6:14 left in the half, but Loudon got it right back three minutes later on a three point play by Berry.

The Redskins slowly expanded their lead this time until a runner in the lane by Berry at the buzzer gave Loudon a 34-29 lead at the break.
The Tornadoes began to fight back once again, however, climbing to within a point with 1:43 left in the third quarter.  The Redskins got back to a four point lead by the end of the third, however, as they led 48-44 heading to the fourth.

Haskins enjoyed a big day despite the loss, as he scored 29 points.  Berry followed with 14.
Shawn led the Tornadoes with 21 points and Warren added 13.  Gabe Dondo also tallied 12 points.

The Redskins will be back in action Friday night when they host Kingston for homecoming.  Game time is set for 8 p.m.
