A tough full court press and tough defense proved to be too much for the Greenback Cherokees to handle Friday night as they lost to the Green Wave at Midway, 49-35. The 'Kees jumped out to an early 5-0 lead behind shots by Mykal Titlow and Tyler Bryant, but Midway quickly fought back to lead 7-5.
The lead changed hands a couple more times before the Green Wave prevailed 18-14 after one quarter. The hosts built upon their lead in the second, as they extended it to nine, 29-20, at halftime. After Midway began the third with a jumper to lead by 11, Trevor Franklin scored three straight to cut the gap back to eight.
The Green Wave cruised from there, however, to lead by 16 after three and hold off the youthful Cherokees. Titlow was the only 'Kee to score in double digits, as he tallied 14.
The Cherokees will be back in action Tuesday night when they host Rockwood. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
