The first time Loudon took on CAK, the Lady Warriors cruised to a 19-point win. The second time around Tuesday night, it appeared the young Lady Redskins had learned something from the previous meeting.
The game was as close as a two point differential late in the third quarter, but the Lady Warriors still hung on to defeat Loudon 39-29. It looked early on like the Lady Warriors might take control of the game, much like the first meeting, as they jumped out to a 9-3 lead. However, Katie Settlemyre scored eight of the next 10 points to tie the game at 11 heading to the second.
The Lady Redskins tied the game twice in a low-scoring second quarter, but the Lady Warriors managed to inch the margin to four at haltime, 20-16. Savannah Berry opened the third with a bucket to cut the gap to two, but CAK scored the next four points to lead by six.
Loudon wouldn't go away, though, as Zoe Grimes hit a pair of free throws and Settlemyre tossed in a bucket to cut the margin to two with 3:14 left in the third. The Lady Warriors scored the next 13 points, however, to lead by six after the third quarter and eventually by 15 with 5:10 left in the game.
Loudon fought back once again, as Settlemyre and Berry combined to cut the gap to 10 with 2:51 left in the game. Neither team managed a bucket the rest of the way. "We showed big improvement over the last time we played them," Loudon Head Coach Bryant Collins said after the game.
Settlemyre led the Lady Redskins with 13 points and Berry added 12. The Lady Redskins will return to action Friday at Scott County. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
