Late turnovers kept the Lady Panthers from earning their fifth District 4(3A) win of the season Friday night. Despite leading for most of the game heading into the fourth quarter, the Lady Panthers couldn't hold their six-point lead as they fell at William Blount 52-47.
The Lady Panthers grabbed an early 17-13 lead after the first quarter and expanded it to an eight-point advantage at halftime. The Lady Governors began to fight back starting in the third quarter, however, closing the Lenoir City gap to just six points after outscoring LC 13-11 in the quarter.
The Lady Panthers held firm to their lead in the early portion of the quarter, but it began to slip away as they commited a few late-game turnovers. They had just 13 giveaways in the game, but just a few in the fourth quarter swayed the lead over to William Blount. Thanks in large part to the crucial turnovers, the Lady Governors outscored Lenoir City 18-9 in the fourth quarter.
Lenoir City's Taylor Robinson led all scorers with 19 points, while Catherine Hunley followed with 10. Shelby Click tallied 16 points for the Lady Governors and Tatum Burstrom added 15. With the loss, the Lady Panthers fall to 10-4 overall and 4-4 in the district.
They'll return to action Tuesday night when they host Farragut. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
