Lenoir City amateur golfer Ray Morton ended last week's Coca-Cola Championship tied for fifth place in the overall regular division.
Morton shot a 70 on the first day, with four birdies and a pair of bogeys throughout the day. That left him two shots under par, in a five-way tie for third place after the first day. He trailed Steve Golliher's 68 and four other players' 69.
On day two, Morton got off to a good start with two birdies through his first nine holes. On the back half, however, Morton birdied only once, coupled with a bogey and a double bogey, to settle in at a 72 (par) for the round.
He finished the tournament at 142 - two shots under par overall. Morton tied with Knoxville's Grant Milner and Todd Burgan and Antioch's Loren Personett. Milner and Burgan were both a shot ahead of Morton heading into the second day. Morton finished tied for third among amateurs, behind Lake City's Jeremy Cox and Knoxville's Jeff Golliher. Milner and Burgan were the amateurs tied with him.
In the overall senior division, Loudon's Jim Brown ended with a seventh place finish. Brown shot a 71 on the first day, with three birdies and two bogies carrying him to his finish. That number was one shot under par and good enough for a fourth place tie on the first day. Brown had some struggles on the second day, starting the round with a bogey on the first hole. After that, he had two bogeys, two birdies and a double bogey. His 75 on the second day placed him seventh overall at two shots over par.
Brown ended fourth among fellow amateurs in the tournament, behind Knoxville's Bryan Rodgers, Hixson's David McKenna and Franklin's Doug Harris. Steven Swindlehurst, a Lenoir City resident, also took part in the senior division and finished 30th. Swindlehurst shot an 83 on the first day and an 81 on the second.
The Coca-Cola Classic ran from June 22-23 at Oak Ridge Country Club.
