An Ohio man died in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate-75 in Loudon County Thursday
afternoon, according to Trooper Dan Morton of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
John
Dankenbring, 19, of the Cincinnati area, was pronounced dead at the scene after he apparently lost
control of the 1993 Toyota Previa he was driving, according to Morton.
Two of the passengers in the van, Peter Mooney, 20, and Stephen Rosemire, 21, were treated
and released. A fourth passenger, Zach Heeney, 20, was transported to the University of Tennessee
Medical Center by ambulance, according to Morton. All were from the Cincinnati, Ohio
area.
The wreck occurred at about 2:15 p.m. on the northbound side of the
interstate between exits 72 and 76. In addition to THP, the Loudon County Sheriff's Office, Rural
Metro and the Loudon County Rescue Squad reported to the scene.
Northbound lanes were closed following the wreck causing traffic to back
up before authorities were able to route vehicles around the accident on the
shoulder.
Morton said Rosemire was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and Mooney was cited for having a fake identification. As standard procedure with a fatality, Morton said they are awaiting results of blood tests for alcohol.
Efforts by law enforcement and emergency
officials were complicated by wind, hail and heavy rain.
