The Lenoir City Museum and Cotton Mill at 110
Depot Street downtown has opened for the season.
"A lot of
people will say they didn't even know we had a museum," said Gerri Matlock, who opens the buildings
doors two days a week for visitors.
The museum is open from 1 to 4 on
Thursdays and Fridays and features many pieces of memorabilia from Lenoir City's
past.
The old house is broken into four themed rooms. It starts with an area
dedicated to the history of Lenoir City's settlement and how it got its name. Several pictures and
items that originally belonged to the Lenoir Family are on display.
Visitors will then pass into rooms dedicated to the Lenoir City Car Works, a war room and an
area for Lenoir City Schools.
Matlock said she would like more
local people to get interested in the museum and appreciates the visitors and new members of the
community who stop by.
