The Lenoir City No. 2 team hosted the Lenoir City Summer Bash this weekend and, while only winning one game, still managed a third place finish in the four team event. On Friday night the Panthers faced the eventual tournament champion Georgia Generals from Ringgold, Ga., and ended up on the short end of a 10-1 score. On Saturday afternoon they bounced back to notch their only win, 12-5 over the Blount County Storm.
Later Saturday evening numerous errors resulted in a loss to the Cumberland County Jets 12-5. On Sunday afternoon they got a rematch against the Jets and a win would move them into the championship game against the Generals. Leading 5-4 headed to the bottom of the fifth and facing a time limit rule, they allowed the first runner to reach on a hit.
After stealing second, the runner was thrown out attempting to steal third. The next batter walked and stole second and third. A strike out by Hunter Wiggans put the Panthers within one out of advancing. A Jet base hit tied the game, though. The Cumberland County base runner also stole second. The next batter got a base hit between short and third. The Panthers had a play at the plate but the throw sailed high and the Jets won.
