Air quality monitor to stay at FLMS, task force members continue to have questions

Loudon County Air Quality Task Force members remain opposed to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation removal of the air toxics monitor at Fort Loudoun Middle School. Mike Crosby, task force president, said he had contacted Qunicy Styke III, deputy director of TDEC's Air Division, and that Styke had informed him the monitor removal was slated for June 30.

Fire destroys empty house in Lenoir City

An apparently abandoned house at Simpson Road and Northside Drive went up in flames about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The building was totally involved by the time Lenoir City Fire Department firefighters responded just moments later. A nearby neighbor on Northside Drive, Billy Powell, said he had heard the property had been occupied at one point by homeless people, but police at the scene said it had not been determined whether the house was occupied when it burned, or what caused the fire. No one was in the structure at the time, according to authorities at the scene.

Vonore man charged with child rape in Loudon County

The Loudon County Sheriff's Department has arrested a Vonore man for allegedly entering a 12-year-old girl's home in Loudon County and having "sexual contact" with her.

Judy Fenton as been chosen to take the reins as the new director of United Way of Loudon County. Fenton, a resident of Loudon County, said her main job as director will be to increase awareness of the agency and the services it provides.

Body of missing boater found in Loudon

The body of a boater missing in the Tennessee River since early Friday morning was recovered that afternoon after an intensive search. Rescue squads from several counties converged on Loudon to help look for the missing man after the boat he was on hit a barge.
