Major General Raymond R. Galloway

Major General Raymond R. Galloway-retired, 85, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, passed away Jan. 23, 2013. Ray was a member of the Community Church at Tellico Village.

He was born to Samuel and Myrtle Galloway Nov. 21, 1927 in Norwich, Ohio. Ray graduated from Muskingum High School in 1946 and joined the U.S. Army and served for seven years. He then joined the Ohio National Guard and graduated from flight school flying both helicopter and fixed wing aircraft.

Ray served as flight facility commander for the ONG at the Akron-Canton Airport located in Greensburg, Ohio and held a number of command positions.

During that time, he worked with the neonatal intensive care unit personnel at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron to establish Medicopter flights for 17 counties in northeast Ohio. He was cited by the governor for his efforts.

He was appointed Ohio Adjutant General by Gov. Richard F. Celeste and served in that position until his retirement.

After retirement, he worked as a reservist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason.

Ray enjoyed playing golf and reading.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy Ann.

He is also survived by his brother, Delbert Brock and sister-in-law Francis as well as his brother-in-law, Thomas D. Collinsworth and sister-in-law, Roma and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wilbert, sisters Thelma and Dorothy.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Community Church at Tellico Village. Gifts in his memory may be made to the Tellico Village Community Church Building Fund 130 Chota Center, Loudon, TN or to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
