Donald Philip Voorhis, 65, of the Tellico Village Community in Loudon, formerly of Birmingham, Mich., passed away of ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease) on Feb. 1, 2010. He died peacefully at home holding the hands of his wife and daughter.
He was a member of the Tellico Village Community Church. Originally from Middletown, Ohio, he graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BS in Industrial Management, June of 1967 and an MBA in Macro Economics June of 1968. Don was a member of Gamma X Chapter University of Cincinnati Class of 1967. He worked his entire career at Chrysler Corporation in Michigan.
Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Voorhis; by his mother, Betty Voorhis; and by his first wife, Patricia Rogers Voorhis.
He is survived by his current wife, Cheryl Voorhis; his daughters, Jenny Mitchell and husband, Jordan of Kirkland Wash. and Sarah Fraley and husband, Kevin of Milan, Mich.; his grandchildren, Hannah Hunter, Joseph and Miranda; by his second family who loved and adored him, Cheryl's children, James Turner and his wife, Ebru, Kimberly Dickerson and her husband, Kent, Tracie Bondy and her husband Scott and Darrel Turner; and by his grandchildren, Kaitlin, Avery, Savanna, Jesse, Hunter, Jack, Cheyenne, Ciara and Dakota.
The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Click Funeral Home and Cremations, Tellico Village Chapel, 145 Chota Center, Tellico Village. They will also receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Tellico Village Community Church with a Celebration of Life to follow at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Marty Singley officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held at the church.
