The Rev. LeRoy Prater, 75, of Friendsville, passed away Sunday morning at Blount Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Prater retired from ALCOA Aluminum Company and served as a dedicated Minister of the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Franklin and Mary Paul Prater; by one son, Steven D. Prater; and by his brothers, Fred and Virgil Prater.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Lou Lucas Prater; his children, Roy Lee Prater and wife, Dorothy of Madisonville, Carlene Norton of North Carolina, Mark Prater and wife, JoAnn of Greenback, and Karen Prater of Louisville; by his grandchildren, Kevin, Jeffery, Jonathan, Dinah, Rachael, Shawn, Amanda, Isaac and Dalton; by his great-grandchildren, Cyndal, Miranda, Dillon, Faith, Emma, Karen, Brandon, Kalen and Michael; by his brother, Ray Prater and wife, Karen; by his sister, Barbara Cravo and husband, Frank; by many nieces and nephews, cousins; and by his church family and friends.
The family received friends on Wednesday, Feb.3, from 2 to 4 p.m., in the Chapel of Sherwood Memorial Gardens, with the funeral service following. The Rev. Richard Hill and the Rev. Cleve Cansler officiated. Burial followed in Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens is honored to help the Prater family.
