The Rev. John B. Hunt, 72, of Sloan Street West in Madisonville, passed away at 11:10 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Blount Memorial Hospital.
He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, a member of Tellico Masonic Lodge #80, and a well know building contractor in Monore and surrounding counties. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was known for his ability to do the correct thing in life and help anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burt and Dovie Hunt; his brothers, the Rev. Kenneth Hunt, Claude Phillips, Arnold Phillips and Wayne Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty Parks Hunt; his daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Mike Brooks of Englewood; his son and daughter-in-law, John (Johnny) B. Hunt, Jr. and Wallene Hunt of Madisonville; his grandchildren, Lacey Brooks Powell of Athens, Bethany Danielle Hunt and Brooke Logan Hunt; his brothers, Doyle Hunt, Sherald Hunt, Ed Phillips and Hoyt Phillips; by serveral nieces and nephews; his step-daughter and husband, Donna and Barry Maxwell; his four step-grandchildren, Megan, Kaylyn, Payton and Jordan, all of Madisonville; and by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James (Jimmy) Boyd and Lois Parks of Chattanooga.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bierely-Hale Funeral Home in Madisonville. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Biereley-Hale Chapel with the Rev. John Butler and the Rev. Donnie Houston officiating. A Masonic service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Haven Hill Memorial Gardens.
